1. THE TICKET COLLECTOR AT LILAS STATION

I’m the ticket collector
People pass by me, people don’t look at me
There’s no sunshine in the Underground
Such a strange cruise
To kill time, I carry in my coat
Back issues of Reader’s Digest
And it says in these books
Guys in Miami, they just take it easy
While I’m down here making a fool of myself
Down in this cave
They say there’s no such thing as a stupid work
Me I’m pounding little holes in tickets

Punching holes, tiny holes and more tiny holes
Punching holes, tiny holes , always tiny holes
Second class holes
First class holes
Punching holes, tiny holes and more tiny holes
Punching holes, tiny holes , always tiny holes

Tiny holes, tiny holes
Tiny holes, tiny holes

I’m the ticket collector
To get to Invalides, transfer at Opera Station
I dwell in the belly of this underground planet
In my head
There’s a swarm of hole punched confettis
They follow me all the way to my bed
And under my sooty tile sky
The only sun that shines is the “Correspondance“ sign
Sometimes I day dream, I fade away
I can see waves
And in the mist at the end of my platform
I see a ship coming to save me
To save me from this hole where I’m punching holes

Tiny holes, tiny holes, tiny holes
But the ship it sails off
And I can see it leaving me
And I stay in my hole, keep on punching holes
Punching holes, tiny holes , always tiny holes

Tiny holes, tiny holes
Tiny holes, tiny holes

I’m the ticket collector
To get to Invalides, transfer at Opera  station
I’ve had enough, I’m getting fed up
With this stinking pit
I swear some day I’ll disappear
Hang up my hat in the locker
Someday I know, that is for sure
I’ll slip out in the wilderness
I’ll stroll down endless wide roads
No matter what
And if it’s too late for me
I’ll be going feet first

Punching holes, tiny holes and more tiny holes
Punching holes, tiny holes , always tiny holes
It’s enough to make you crazy
Enough to grab a gun
And blast out a hole, a tiny hole, one last tiny hole
A tiny hole, a tiny hole, one last tiny hole
And they’ll put me in a deep hole
Where I’ll never hear again of holes, never again holes

Tiny holes, tiny holes,
tiny holes
